MathPen

MathPad is a calm, friendly app that helps children (ages ~5–12) practice math by hand — writing each digit with their finger, just like
on paper. It covers addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, with no ads or accounts, and works fully offline.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 13, 2026

Thank you for using MathPen. We built MathPen to be a safe, calm place for children to practice math by hand. Your privacy — and your child's privacy — is important to us.

The short version
MathPen works fully offline by default, and everything your child does in the app stays on their device. Information only leaves the device if a parent chooses to create an optional account to follow their child's progress — in which case we store just a parent email, a name, and simple practice summaries (never your child's handwriting or answers). We never show ads, never use analytics or tracking, and never sell or share your data.

Information we collect

Parent accounts.

Parents may optionally create an account with an email address and password to view their child's progress. We store the parent's email and chosen display name. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication.

Child data we sync (only when a parent connects a device). When a parent links a child's device to their family, we store summaries of practice sessions: the topic, number of questions, scores, counts of corrections/hints, session duration, and timestamps. Optionally, a parent-entered first name to label the child's progress.

What we never collect. We do not store the child's handwriting/drawings, the actual answers or content of any question, precise location, contacts, photos, or any advertising identifiers. The child's device uses an anonymous identifier (a random ID with no credentials or personal information).

Third-party processing. Account and progress data are stored using Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) on Google Cloud servers located in North America. See Google's Privacy Policy for how they process data.

Children's privacy

MathPen is intended for children, including children under 13. Children do not create accounts and are never asked for personal information — a child's device is identified only by an anonymous, random ID. Any account is created and controlled by a parent (an adult), who provides consent by creating it and connecting a device. A child's synced data is limited to practice summaries (topics, scores, counts, timestamps) — never their handwriting or the content of answers.

MathPen also includes:
• No ads.
• No third-party analytics or tracking.
• No in-app messaging or social features.
• No external links or purchases presented to children during practice (these sit behind a parents-only gate).

This is consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation provisions for children (GDPR-K).

Data retention & deletion.

Data retention & deletion. A parent can permanently delete their account and all associated family data (children, progress, and codes) at any time from within the app, under Settings → Delete account. A parent can also clear a child's synced progress (Reset progress or Remove child), disconnect a device to stop further syncing, or contact us at admin@microclouds.ca for help. Data kept only on the device can be cleared within the app or by deleting the app.

MathPen is intended for children, including children under 13.

MathPen includes:

  • No ads.

  • No in-app messaging.

  • No social features.

  • No external links presented to children during practice.

This is consistent with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation provisions for children (GDPR-K).

Information stored on your device

To make the app work, MathPen saves some information locally on your device only. This information never leaves your device and is never accessible to us.

This may include:

  • Your practice settings, such as the number of digits and question count.

  • Your handwriting and answers for the current session.

  • Your past session history and scores.

This data is stored in the app’s private storage. You can remove it at any time by clearing the app’s history within MathPen or by deleting the app, which will also remove all its local data.

Third parties

MathPen does not use advertising networks, analytics providers, or social media services, and we never sell or share your information for anyone else's purposes. The only third party involved is Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore), which we use solely as a service provider to store parent-account and progress data on our behalf, on Google Cloud servers in North America. See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google processes this data.

Purchases
Addition practice is free. The other math operations, and the Clock (telling-the-time) module, are available as paid in-app purchases — individually or as a bundle. All purchases are handled securely by the App Store (or Google Play). MathPen does not receive, collect, or store any payment information.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how MathPen handles information, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.

Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
